Digital Marketing Roundup – What’s New July 2016

What's new in July 2016- Digital Marketing for Small Business owners.

The world of digital marketing is a fast paced one. Last month, we were talking about Facebook ad changes and this month, we are talking about Pokemon Go. Yes, apparently the new craze for business is Pokemon Go.

Digital Marketing Roundup July 2016

Pokemon Go could Increase foot traffic to your Business

Pokemon Go is a location-based, augmented reality game for mobile devices. So, you can download and play the game from your Apple and Android devices. The idea behind the game is that players interact with their physical surrounding to find and capture these Pokemon creatures. Since the launch, one player has caused a massive highway accident, and others have collided into trees, and the list goes on.

But, don’t frown upon the game just yet. It can (supposedly) drive foot traffic to your business and increase your sales. If you run a brick and mortar food facility- you might be laughing all the way to the bank.

This does not entirely convince me but let’s see how it works out. It’s still early days (right?).

Anyone can apply for Twitter verification

Twitter  decided to open up their verification process to the public. But is the little blue badge anymore accessible because we can apply for it?

This is what Twitter said:

An account may be verified if it is determined to be an account of public interest. Typically this includes accounts maintained by users in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas.

Here is the link to apply if you'd like to try your luck:

1. Go to Twitter Verification form here
2. Log in to your account
3. You will need a minimum of two websites that can verify who you are
4. Write a 500 characters statement
5: Submit and wait for them

Instagram Business profiles

Instagram business profiles are here but available in US, New Zealand and Australia. (What’s up with that? We are a big deal in the UK!)

Anyways, you can convert your current account to a business profile.

  1. Select the cog wheel to see if “Switch to Business profile” option is available
  2. Select the option
  3. Connect to your Facebook page
  4. Edit your information and complete the set-up

The added advantage of a business profile is that you can access Instagram’s analytics and run ad campaigns directly from your app. Do consider before you take the leap, though. Think- Facebook and how they now restrict the reach of your post on business profiles?

Canva has gone App!

Canva has been the desktop design tool of choice for many marketers. It lets you create beautiful designs like a pro. Now they’ve rolled out the Canva IOS app and (my gosh)- it’s free and easy to use. Not to mention the designs that you can create with your fingertips. (literally)

I particularly find it useful for Pinterest designs. You know those neat rectangular designs that grab attention. Now is the time to download it and start to manage your Pinterest boards from your phone.

Snapchat won't Let your post Vanish anymore

Snapchat rolled out “Memories”. To be honest: am a late adopter of Snapchat. I’ve never used the platform. Partly because I don’t like the idea that my stuff disappears. Now I might try it because they’re now memories.

According to Snapchat, memories are a new way to save your favourite moments otherwise called your personal collection.

According to me, it’s a way for Snapchat to get grown-up on their platform so they can monetise it.

Either way, there’s probably not a better time to try it out for your business.

Usain Bolts' emoji app

By the way, if you are a fan of the fastest man in the world. You can celebrate this with “Boltmoji“. These are emojis of the sprinter showing all his famous moves. The app can be downloaded from IOS and Google play and comes with 41 emojis.

  1. I have to agree that the use of Pokemon for marketing is quite a claim. Thanks for the info. It sure helps with my FOMO syndrome. 🙂
